A quick bit about a recent MCI ad on the web.

The Administration is trying to say that criticism based on the lack of WMD in Iraq is instant revisionism. Sounds more like the pot trying to call the kettle black.
May 25, 2003
Speculation on the Presidential campaign strategies, wherein Bush wins by abandoning Afghanistan and Iraq.
May 17, 2003
Comparing Democrats and Republicans to models of network infrastructure.

First off, I so unused to this idea. I'm so indoctrinated to the idea that liberals are the idealists to the point that the complement
also seems true, that is, that all idealists are liberals. You know, Hernry the K, realpolitiks, and all that jazz. So its odd to think that these guys might be idealists.

Damn, George looks like he ate a bird, he's so tickled with himself.

Some of the reactions I received from my "Sad" piece.

I have been reviewing documents about the Bush administrations, and I've come to the awful realization that what is happening now was foretold over a decade ago. So it should be no surprise that we are where we are. And that's partly what saddens me --
they gave plenty of warning and the people I trusted to look out for these things failed miserably.

The editorial in the New York Times (Staying Organic, March 5th, no author given) brings up some excellent points concerning the politics surrounding the USDA organic standards for livestock. However, the author makes a serious final error in assuming the solution to the feed issue lies in subsidized production of organic grain.

Architecture is powerful at the gut level. One of the functions of great art and architecture is to trigger our instinct, and remind us of something else. It could be a place or a feeling or a vague memory.

What's-her-name from the AEI on Bill Mahre last night sounded morally incredulous when Bill suggested continuing mutally assured destruction as an alternative to Georgie's new pre-emptive strike doctrine.

I think Barlow is correct that Cheney is the driving force in this administration, and I accept Barlow's assessment that Cheney is very smart.

Now comes Patriot II,
a leaked or trial-ballooned (depending on your level and type of cynicism) draft of Ashcroft inspired modifications, tweaks, and clarifications to the original.

They feed the country the drug of righteous indignation and patriotic vitriol and then take us home and have their way with us.

Privacy is the basic tool to combat coercion. The less "others" know about us, the less leverage they have to intimidate us, blackmail us, or ostracize us either politically, socially, or economically. Privacy is the tool we use to polish our personae to others.

TIA will only have to look at the private net, because that's the only place where commercial transactions, like making airline reservations, will occur, and that's where every transaction will be trackable by the digID. Sure, there will be bladerunners patroling the dark net, but the underground will be forced offline.

What's pissing me off these days
are those folks who spout off about how the free market is the cure for everything. Don't prosecute Microsoft because, well, the free market will take care of it.
January 25, 2003
The discussions surrounding the new round of plans for the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site have raised some interesting issues.

I sat transfixed by a 60 Minutes story on tort reform. You had regular working people calling for tort reform because the climate of liability was keeping businesses and doctors out of their communities.

In fact, we are experiencing a period where, because there is one dominant player in the world, the might of that player determines what is considered right, at least for the time being.

I had a long talk with Liz last night about politics and economics. Her question was: how effective are anti-war protests? So back to Vietnam we went.
