Systems Analysis for TCCC
Amos Satterlee -  January 25, 2004

The following is an analysis of the computer systems for the Tai Chi Chuan Center, a small non-profit organization. The analysis outlines the basic issues involved with most small computer networks, discusses approaches and alternatives, and makes recommendations where appropriate.

The analysis comes in three parts.

Part I: Connectivity
Topics cover both connecting to the Internet and the safeguards needed to protect systems from the bad actors out there.

Part II: Systems and Applications
This was written for an office with one computer, so there's no discussion about the set up and management of a local area network (LAN). It includes a lengthy discussion of MS Office and alternatives.

Part III. Data
Here are covered basic data protection and collection topics, with a strong emphasis on backups. In terms of priority, this topic should be tops, for without good data, the system is worthless.

Questions and comments welcomed.
