It seems that there are as many cars in Martinique as there are people. Most are sub cars, like the Renault Clio, and the overwhelming majority are white. The primary roads are well-paved. They are also very windy around the volcanic terrain.

Grand-Riviere is on the northern tip of the island, at one end of the main horseshoe road that goes from here along the eastern shore, down to Fort-de-France, and back up to Ilet de Perle. The northern face of Mount Pelee drops directly into the sea, making road construction difficult.
