I've done a pretty good job of teaching myself basic html and basic 2D imagining technology. Recently, I received a Sony Hi-8 cam in order to tape Julia and Mike's wedding, so now I need to get it edited, etc.
I talked to my friend Rose Rosenblat about editing. She's a very accomplished documentarian and has a nice Avid set-up. If we can swing it, we'll get her to make the final edit. Until then, I've got to go through the raw footage and get a rough cut together.
My first stop was to Avid Cinema. No luck. They're a Mac house and I'm Win95 going to Linux. Next to the shareware houses. I ended up with a trial of HyperCam, a neat ap that captures screen action in an AVI file, and Videotrope, an AVI editor from Jasc.
So ok, what are the various methods of compression? What is linear vs. nonlinear editing? And what, for crying out loud, is "firewire"?
