You Bet
Amos Satterlee -  March 8, 2003

What's-her-name from the AEI on Bill Mahre last night sounded morally incredulous when Bill suggested continuing mutally assured destruction as an alternative to Georgie's new pre-emptive strike doctrine. An American president allowing the country to be attacked before responding???

You god damned right, honey. It's called the American way. Fight fair. Don't be a bully. Y'all talk about this being a Christian country; whatever happened to the milk of Christian kindness. If you want a government that strikes out at other countries only as it sees fit, then why don't you move to, say, Iraq.

Yes, we should sit back and wait. If someone sets off a nuke within our borders, like Bill says, we will know where it came from and then we will strike back. If they run a couple of planes into tall buildings, kill 3,000 people and give a final kick to our recession, then we should track them down relentlessly and prove their culpability in an open forum. That's the way civilized people do it. It's called the Rule of Law -- and not the Law of Rulers.

Y'all demand that this advernture not be defined in economic terms, but in moral, patriotic terms. Saddam is supposed to be so obviously evil that we should go violate Iraq's borders. Well, I say bullshit. You guys haven't even put on a decent circumstantial case, much less a compelling one to invade another sovreign state and install a puppet government fronting for a military administration.

In 1995 Saddam's son-in-law Kamel told the CIA that Iraq had destroyed all biologics and missiles but did keep designs, plans, etc. Iraqis are destroying missiles as requested. US and UK warplanes daily survey 2/3 of the Iraqi airspace and bomb without warning. US and UK have blocked almost $2 billion in infrastructure improvements out of UN supervised oil spending. Lady, we are acting like a vindicitive, lying jerk wrapped in a veil of self-righteous indignation.
